At First Steps Nursery we encourage our children to discover and celebrate a range of different cultures and festivals to give them a broad understanding of different religions and celebrations.
For Halloween the children will be making Halloween themed crafts and cards. On Friday 29th October, we will be having our annual Halloween party tea and fancy dress party. For tea the children will have scary sandwiches, scary pizzas, howling sausages rolls, terrifying quiches and Halloween themed cakes, biscuits and treats.
For this occasion the children will be making firework pictures and crafts such as rockets and sparklers to take home with them. Within the preschool room staff will be talking with the children about firework safety at a child’s level so they are able to understand but not be frightened.
In honer and to remember of all those who fought and died in the line of duty the children will be making poppy themed pictures, cards or crafts.
Hanukkah is the Jewish festival of lights, celebrated for eight days. It commemorates the Jews’ struggle for religion freedom. During Hanukkah, Jews light one more candle each night. The children will be making lots of different crafts including handprint pictures and collaged pictures.
Diwali is celebrated by Hindus and is a five day celebration which occurs on the fifteenth day of the Hindu month of Kartika (during October / November in the Gregorian calendar). The fourth day of Diwali is Hindu new year. The festival of light is held
in the honour of Lakshmi, the Hindus goddess of wealth and prosperity. Hindus pray to Lakshmi to bring them goodluck in the coming year. The children will be making lots of different crafts including finger painted candles and 3D lanterns and stars.
For the whole month of December all the nursery children will be creating cards, calendars, placemats, and tree
decorations. We will be having a traditional Christmas dinner one day over this month and a party is planned for another day. During the party children will play games, dance to music and enjoy a party tea and treats such as sandwiches, sausage rolls, mini quiche and pizza. Treats of cakes and jelly will be served for dessert on this day.
